Sunbrief is operated by Jomari Espiritu. If you have questions about your data, email support@sunbrief.app.
What Sunbrief reads
New Gmail messages, and Slack direct messages, mentions and channels you choose, so they can be sorted into your brief. When you first connect Gmail, Sunbrief also looks through the last 30 days, once, for conversations still waiting on your reply. Promotions, newsletters and anything you already answered are skipped and not stored. If you tap "Learn my voice", Sunbrief reads about 40 emails you sent, once, to learn your writing style. It keeps only a short summary (length, greetings, sign-offs, formality), encrypted, never the emails. When you edit a draft before sending, it compares the draft with what you sent to learn your habits. You can clear what it learned in Settings.
How Sunbrief uses AI
To sort your messages, write your brief and draft replies, Sunbrief sends the text of the messages it is working on to third-party AI models. Your notes for a reply and the summary of how you write are sent the same way when a draft is written. These requests go through OpenRouter, and only to AI providers that don't keep your messages or train on them.
Slack
If you connect Slack, Sunbrief receives your direct messages, group messages, messages that mention you, replies in threads you started, and messages in channels shared with another company. Ordinary channel messages that don't involve you are ignored. Replies post as you, in the same conversation, only after you tap Send. Disconnecting Slack revokes Sunbrief's access and deletes the Slack messages it stored.
Calendar
If you add Google Calendar, Sunbrief reads today's meetings, read-only, to give your brief and drafts context. Calendar events are read when needed and never stored. Sunbrief never changes your calendar.
Meeting bios
With Calendar added, Sunbrief prepares a short brief on people from outside your company you're meeting today. It reads your past Gmail with that person, and looks up public, work-related facts about them and their company on the web (their name and company website are sent to a search provider, Perplexity; your email is not). Coworkers are skipped. The brief is encrypted and deleted 30 days after it was last updated, or when you disconnect Gmail.
Voice notes
If you use the mic to tell Sunbrief what a reply should say, your iPhone turns your speech into text. When your iPhone supports it, this happens on the phone itself; otherwise Apple's speech recognition does it. No audio is recorded or saved. You can check the text before a draft is written, and it is then used like a typed note.
Filtered mail
Codes, newsletters, promotions and notifications are kept out of your brief. Sunbrief lists them for 48 hours with only the sender and subject, so you can find a login code. Their contents are never stored.
Replies
Replies are sent through your Gmail, in the same conversation, only after you tap Send. They go to the sender only. Sunbrief keeps what you sent, next to its draft, for 14 days so it can learn how you edit.
What Sunbrief keeps
Your account, your setup answers, your key people and a short summary of how you write. Message text is encrypted and deleted after 14 days. Access to Gmail and Slack is stored encrypted on our servers, never on your phone.
Services that receive data
Sunbrief uses these services to work. Each gets only what it needs:
- Google: Gmail and Google Calendar, when you connect them, to read and send email and read your meetings. Google also receives a company's website address so Sunbrief can show its logo.
- Slack: when you connect it, to read your messages and post your replies.
- OpenRouter and the AI providers it uses: the message text needed to sort, brief and draft, as described above.
- Perplexity: the name and company website of people you are meeting, for meeting bios.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple (your name and email, which you can choose to hide), payments and subscriptions, and speech to text when it can't happen on your phone. Apple handles payment; Sunbrief never sees your card.
- Superwall: runs purchases and subscription status. It receives your Sunbrief account ID, your purchases, basic app and device information, and your setup answers: your role, team size, which apps your messages come from, how many messages you get, how long sorting them takes, what has slipped through, your age range and how you heard about Sunbrief.
- Cloudflare: hosts Sunbrief's servers, database and this website.
What Sunbrief never does
Send anything without your tap. Sell your data. Let an AI provider keep your messages or train on them.
Deleting your data
Disconnecting Gmail or Slack deletes what Sunbrief stored from it. Deleting your account in Settings deletes everything.
Your requests
To get a copy of your data, or to ask us to delete it, email support@sunbrief.app from the address on your account.
Children
Sunbrief is made for working professionals and is not meant for children. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you think a child has given us data, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top. If a change affects how your data is used, we will also tell you in the app or by email.
Google user data
Sunbrief's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
